Come along to PBF in 2008!Are you starting a Masters, PhD or working at Sydney Uni this year? Then this is the Bible Study to keep you going (and growing!) as a Christian throughout your time at the University. PBF is a group of Christian sydney uni postgrads & staff who meet to learn from God's word, pray together and support each other as we seek to be salt and light in our place at uni. Our group is refreshingly diverse; being interdenominational, staff-student, and even interfaculty! We have typically consisted of research-based postgrads, research staff, teaching staff, general uni staff, and some final year undergrads (prospective postgrads). You're welcome to contact us and drop in at any time.
Re:Jesus Fesitival 08! 18th - 29th of August"Jesus: the Rebuttal of Atheism?" - Lecture by Dr. John Lennox.1pm Tuesday the 19th of August, MacLaurin Hall. This exciting event is expected to generate a lot of interest! It's a great opportunity for all Christians at the University, but particularly those of us engaged in postgraduate study or work, to invite our thinking and perhaps sceptical friends and colleagues to be challenged and stimulated by the person of Jesus Christ. As you can read below, Dr. Lennox is more than qualified to talk about the relationships between science, atheism and faith in Christ. Plan to come now and start thinking about who to invite! Dr. John Lennox (MA, MA (Bioethics), Ph.D., D. Phil., D. Sc.) delivered the 2008 Carver- Barnes lectures on March 11 and 12. Dr. Lennox is Reader in Mathematics in the University of Oxford and Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy of Science and Pastoral Advisor, Green College, University of Oxford. He holds doctorates from Cambridge, and the University of Wales and has written many peer-reviewed articles int he field of Algebra. He travels widely speaking on the interface between science and religion. “It is the very nature of science that leads me to belief in God, ” he says. Dr. Lennox has written a response to the notion that science leads inevitable to atheism in a book titled God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? published in September 2007. He recently debated atheist Richard Dawkins, also of Oxford University, in Birmingham, Alabama in October 2007.
