LeadershipLeadership of the EUThe Sydney University Evangelical Union is a registered student society of the University of Sydney. It is led by an elected student executive consisting of President, male and female vice-presidents, secretary and treasurer. The EU is divided into faculty groups which each elect a male and female faculty leader at the faculty AGM. Faculty leaders and the executive meet regularly as the EU's General Council (GC). The GC is responsible for overall policy and finances of the EU as well as for key support for and cross-pollination between EU faculties. Staff-Student teams (Specialist Committees) are set up by the GC to oversee particular aspects of the EU's work, and the senior students from these teams attend GC meetings. StaffworkersSince 1989 staff have worked as partners in the gospel ministry at Sydney Uni at the invitation and initiative of the EU student leadership. Staffworkers come from a variety of church and denominational backgrounds. Each staff member serves a particular faculty (or sometimes two) where they support student leaders, run small groups, prepare Bible study material, train students in different aspects of ministry, teach from the Bible at Public Meetings and conferences, and work with teams of students to run particular events throughout the year. The job of EU staffworkers could be summarised as working in partnership with the students, seeking by word and example to empower and equip them. The health of this partnership depends upon a relationship of mutual trust between staff and students that has been nurtured and grown and which continues to flourish today. Find out which faculty committes and specialist teams each staff worker is currently involved with. The staff team is a combination of full and part-time workers who are employed by the EU Graduates Fund. This is a group of ex-EUers and friends who are committed to student ministry and to putting more staff on campus to work alongside the EU by prayer and financial support. The team is led Rowan Kemp together with a team of senior staff, who are responsible for the training and supervision of the Howard Guiness Project staff (affectionately known as 'projectiles'). Howard Guiness was instrumental in the formation of evangelical student groups in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, including the Sydney University EU in 1930. The Howard Guiness Project is the training arm of the Graduates Fund. Howard Guiness Project staff are trained by the senior staff and gain experience in ministry by working with and alongside the students of the EU. The Howard Guiness Project provides a wonderful opportunity for people to try full time ministry and gain experience and training from older and wiser student workers. Many of the staff are ex-students who themselves benefited from working alongside staff during their time as students with the EU. Maybe you know someone who would be interested in supporting the Graduates Fund or joining the Howard Guiness Project? Maybe they're closer than you think... Think about it. See the Graduates Fund website for more information. |
